Introduction to the Center

African Center for Early Childhood Development

The African Early Childhood Development Center is an executive body established by the Addis Ababa City Administration to become a center of excellence at the national, continental (African), and international levels for a multi-sectoral, integrated, and comprehensive early childhood development program.

The center was realized as an independent institution intended to conduct research, monitoring and evaluation, innovation, and the scaling of best practices in the field of early childhood care and development.

I am thrilled to welcome you to the African Center for Early Childhood Development (AfC-ECD). Our mission is to advance early childhood development across Africa, ensuring every child receives the care and support they need to thrive. AfC-ECD aspires to be a hub of innovation and learning, spearheading initiatives to make Addis Ababa the most child-friendly city in Africa. With a focus on collaboration, integrity, and inclusivity, we aim to reach marginalized communities and enhance the lives of seven million children by 2028. Through partnerships with governments, civil society, academia, and donors, we believe in creating sustainable solutions that will have a lasting impact.
